Tree Planting

On Friday we walked to a near by park. We went there to plant some more trees and to do some Cross Country. Once we arrived the 5 classes that went were split in half. We had Our class, Mr Berry’s class and Mr Mac’s year 7s doing the Cross Country. Then we had Mr Mac’s year 6s, Mr Smith’s class and Mrs Shepherdson’s class doing the tree planting first. After about 20 minutes we swapped over. After both classes had done tree plating and Cross Country we walked over to the playground. We played reverse hide-and-seek where you have about 3 people hiding and EVERYONE else seeking. It was pretty fun. After that we walked back to school. By the time we got back there were lots of people complaining about sore feet. We arrived back at school at 2:15pm, and then our class did some relaxing. Several people fell asleep during relaxation time so we had to wake them up when the bell went.

IB Update

For my second review I have decided to do a PDF converter. It is very difficult to find one that is free and works well. I thought I found a good one but it turned out to be not very good at all. I thought I could do a PDF converter because they are very useful for when you want to mabey publish a file on the net but you don’t want anybody to edit it.  But i’m not going to change what I’m doing just because i am having a few problems!

Awesome Robotics!

On Monday we had Robotics. We used a small Lego car with a special brick called a RCX 1.0. We used a program on the computer to program it. First off we had to time how far the car would go in 1 sec, 2 secs, 4 secs, 7 secs and 12 secs. On average I discovered it would go 10cm per second. After that we had to make it go in a shape. It had to go forward, do a 180 degree turn, go back the way it came then do another 180 degree turn so it is back where it started. If we completed that task, we had to make it go in a square which proved quite difficult. Finally we had to navigate a obstacle course. We had to go forward, go under a piano chair, go around a clock and finish in a square above the clock. I had heaps of fun!

IB Update

Every time I do a post I am going to do an IB update so you know what I am up to in my project. This week I started my actual project. First off I had to do the Selecting, Deciding and Questioning part. We had to answer lots of questions to help us decide what to do for our project. In the end I decided that I am going to be reviewing the most useful computer programs for all uses. I will be reviewing many different ones from Animation Makers to Music Converters. Doing things on the computer is what I enjoy so that is why i have chosen to do it. So far I have only reviewed one program called Scratch. It is a program that lets you create little animations and games. You can have a look or download it at http://scratch.mit.edu/.

This has been Curtis writing to you about whats going on at school. Until next time….. Goodbye!

IB Challenge

This Term we are doing the IB Challenge. The IB Challenge is a personal project for middle years students. We have to either design, create or reasearch something. We also have to do a Journal which we record everything that we do. Most of the project is about the Journal so even if you do an amazing project it mostly comes down to the Journal. We get 10 weeks to complete it. Starting from next week, and finishing in Week 1 of Term 4.

El Shaddai!

In Week 10, this Term all the Year 6/7 classes are going on a camp to a place called El Shaddai which is just near the Murray River and 100km from the South Eastern Freeway. There are lots of activities there including Archery, Canoeing, Orienteering and Rock Climbing. We will be going there for two nights, from Monday to Wednesday. I have recantly been on the website and it looks fantastic!

Back to School!

Well, the Holidays are over already, and they sees to have gone so quickly! In the first week of the Holidays we went to a place called Minlaton on the Yorke Peninsula. We stayed at my Uncle and Auntie’s place on a farm. We stayed for two nights. It was great fun staying there because they have two horses, a dog and a MASSIVE front yard. In the second week we went away to Victor Harbour for four nights. We went to Granite Island which was great fun because there are lots of big rocks to climb around on. We also climbed the Bluff which is a big hill. Just when we were about to start climbing it we saw something laying down next to a bush. When we had a closer look we found it was a Sea Lion! It was just lying there staring at who ever walked past. We saw that it had a big cut in its side. When we got back from the top of the Bluff we saw someone from the council having a look at it.  I have had a super Holidays and I hope everyone else had just a good Holidays as I did! Now it’s back to school on Monday i guess!

It’s half way through the Year already, although it feels like only one Term has been by. Before we know it, it will be the end of the Year and all us Year 7s will be off to High School. Personally I have quite a busy holidays with me going away twice, one time tomorrow and the other next week. I hope everyone else has great holidays and see you in two weeks time at school!
